Only 14% of our City Council (1 of 7 members) represents the 78% of Lake Forest Park residents (including myself) who voted against the Prop. 1 tax increase. The other 86% of the Council - including candidates Paulsen, Stanford, Sterner and Thompson - designed the Prop. 1 tax increase, placed it on the ballot and supported it with their own personal funding.
Government should represent the people it serves. Ours does not. That, to me, is why I'm running and what this election is really all about. Vote for a Council candidate who represents Lake Forest Park citizens. Please vote for Jeff Johnson.
"Let's put an optimistic and experienced LFP citizen
on the Council."
Lake Forest Park has been my home for 28 years. My daughter went to school here, and my son just finished up at Brookside Elementary.
Personally, I've immersed myself in the community by mobilizing volunteers efforts when our neighbors have needed help. Professionally, I've built and grown my family-owned business in this area - a business that serves many of you.
I'm running for City Council because I'm concerned that our City Council isn't meeting citizen's expectations.
Last year, Proposition One was a wake-up call. Like 78% of you, I voted against it. But it should have never come to that.
Instead of making tough budget decisions, the Council placed Proposition One on the ballot. They expected us to bear the burden by increasing the city's portion of our property taxes by 38% in the first year alone.
Let's get our council back to basics by: restoring fiscal responsibility, assuring public safety, working to prevent flooding while protecting streams and involving our citizens.
All of the campaign materials for past council elections mention listening to citizens. But actions speak louder than words. I built a business that has grown every year for over 20 years. You can't do that - especially in auto repair - without listening to and earning the trust of your customers. On the council, all of Lake Forest Park will be my customers, and I've proven I respond to my customers.
The Council needs to know what LFP citizens like you and me are thinking. So let's put an optimistic and experienced LFP citizen on the Council.
Please support me, Jeff Johnson, for Lake Forest Park City Council, position #4, on November 8.
